2K Appoints Ben Brinkman as the 31st Union Studio Head: A New Era for the Developer
2K has made a significant move in the gaming industry by appointing Ben Brinkman as the new studio head of 31st Union, effective October 20, 2025. This appointment marks a pivotal moment for the developer, as Brinkman brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the team.
In a memo shared with staff on October 16, 2025, 2K President David Ismailer announced Brinkman's appointment, expressing his excitement about the new studio head's arrival.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new studio head of 31st Union," Ismailer said. "After several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on Monday, bringing a wealth of expertise and a passion for game development."
Brinkman's journey in the gaming industry is impressive. He previously served as the head of production on Apex Legends at Respawn Entertainment, showcasing his ability to lead and manage high-profile projects. Additionally, Brinkman's previous role at 2K as a producer between July 2006 and March 2008 highlights his familiarity with the company's operations.
Ismailer further emphasized Brinkman's expertise in the PVP shooter space, stating, "Ben's leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space are unparalleled. He has spent the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most iconic franchises in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops and, most recently, Apex Legends."
This appointment comes as a replacement for former president Michael Condrey, who was dismissed earlier this year due to concerns regarding the online multiplayer game Project Ethos. 2K assured that Condrey would transition to an advisory role, focusing on the game's future.
In the same memo, Ismailer provided an update on Project Ethos, expressing confidence in the game's potential. "The community feedback from last fall's playtest was enlightening," he said. "It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a more distinct identity."
Ismailer continued, "It's been inspiring to see how far you've come. You took the feedback to heart and reimagined Project Ethos with a renewed vision – one that's poised to deliver on its promise to our players. Our confidence in Project Ethos grows every day."
